Ministries…. They have a way of popping up overnight. A church gets an idea and BOOM! a ministry is born. That can be a good thing and it could be a bad thing. Obviously, it can be a good thing if the ultimate end leads to the lost coming to Christ. However, it can be equally as damaging if it is nothing but fun and games and no one ever hears the Gospel of Christ.
Yes, relationships are key to good evangelism. But many churches have fallen victim to the “social gospel.” The idea that “we’ll just love them like Jesus and they may eventually come to know him” is dangerous at best and unbiblical at its worst. Yes, we will love people like Jesus. However, if our efforts stop there, we eliminate the only vehicle God has given us to win the lost to Himself. That “vehicle” is the telling of the Gospel of Christ (Romans 10:17).
Our ministry, born out of Indian Creek Southern Baptist Church, has a very simple goal:
We love Jesus. We love race fans. We want them to meet.
Our hope and prayer is that through relationships we will build among the thousands that come through the Tyler County Speedway and other race venues we frequent, race fans will open up as we engage them with Gospel-centered conversations.
We will not fear. Christ will not fail.
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. (Romans 1:16 ESV)
